Help! I...I want another BP...

Everyone told me it would happen. They warned me. I didn't believe them! One is enough for me, I said!

...Lies.

So anyway, I really want another BP. I don't mind waiting and saving so I can get what I want in the snake, but for now I'm wondering if anyone else can share their experiences in growing their collection, going from one snake to more? My normal girl is in a terrarium, and I'd sorta like to continue on that way since I enjoy watching her poke around the real estate.

If anybody has anything like a cabinet or other furniture with multiple tanks, I'd love to see your setup. Also wondering about bringing a new snake home and if I need to use different tongs for feeding or prepare the food in different rooms while the new snake is in quarantine.

Also if you have any advice on how to broach the topic of getting more snakes with your landlord, I'm all ears :D Thanks!

As I think you have discovered, adding a second ball python is just a stepping stone to adding six ball pythons. Tanks are really not the way to proceed from here, no matter how much you like looking at them.

Multiple tanks lead to multiple problems for space, cleaning, and husbandry. I really urge you to look at something like this:

Once you go rack, you'll never go back!

And, as an added bonus, a rack is not nearly so conspicuous as a bunch of 20 gallon longs in your living room. Your landlord will be none the wiser ;)

If you're really thinking about expanding your collection, this is the best piece of advise you could ask for. Racks are so much easier and so much more space efficient...so much more easier to maintain, heat, etc...

I know that feel bro!!! I knew I was going to get more after the first one (got her only a week and a bit ago) But 5 years back I was in a car accident (not my fault) and we sued and the case finally came to a close! So now I am going to be making a 10 tier snake rack and have many plans for new additions haha! Even better there is a reptile expo the 27th... All I can think is "MUAHAHAHA"

I know, I just...can I admit that I am extremely paranoid about racks and possible fire danger? I know people use them every day, but I'm a worrier and I just feel like I would be constantly on edge about it. Not that it's any more dangerous by itself than using heat lamps and such, I guess it's because I feel like something could go wrong with it and it might be hard to detect.

I don't know, is there any sort of fire suppression system or anything like that that would give me peace of mind? :tears: If it wasn't for this I'd probably already have more BPs...

Racks are far safer than heat pads and heat lamps. Just a simple thing like a heat lamp falling on the carpet could be a disaster. Plus, PVC is fire retardent. :D

As long as you use a GOOD thermostat and check your connections every month, you will be more than fine! Nothing to worry about. :)

I guess that's true... :s I'll have to ponder it further. I can see adding one more tank, but if I want more snakes than that (and I do!) I guess I really should consider it.
