I would give them a few more days to chill and try again. What time of day/night have you been trying? I've had some in the past that acted sketchy like that where they would strike but miss. They would eventually hit their mark though, and it was all good from there...Next time you do try, I would definitely wait until night time...
I would say try some hopper mice as that can work wonders, but I wouldn't give up on rats yet...

That's silly,
Rats that can't see yet can't hurt a snake and it's a very good way to get some to eat when they have been off feed or stubborn feeders.

I think he meant because it may stress the snake out unnecessarily just having it in there...not because it will chew on the snake...I hope...:confused:
