My Ball python started bleeding from the mouth. Why is this happening? HELP!
Earlier this morning my BP, Seth, seemed fine. He had shed sometime in the night, and I thought I would get some photos. I took him out and put him on my shoulders and went 2 get my camera, when I noticed a droplet of blood on my hands. I saw that everytime Seth flicked his tongue out, he splattered blood. It stopped after I placed him back in his a few minutes later. He has been fine since. I spent the entire day researching what it could be and found only one possible cause online. Mouth rot:(. I later this evening opened his mouth to examine it and found nothing wrong but a little blood at the back of his mouth near the throat. The breeder I got him from said that since everythingelse was fine. Until just now it started again. We opened his mouth and there was a blood clot like thing in his mouth. Other than this he seems fine. Whats happening to my snake...?

Did he maybe ingest a pice of substrate that go caught or a piece of his last meal (claw or tooth) could have caught him on the way down and caused a little wound.

I would keep an eye on him, but he should be fine.

If you have a good reptile vet close by I'd go. It could be something as simple as a scratch but if it went from a drop of blood to a clout it could turn into something more serious. Its always better to be safe than sorry.

I don't think he ate something and cut himself. I fed him last around 2 weeks ago. I would take hime to a herp vet if there was one nearby, but the nearest one I found was a 5 and half hour drive away, and considering I can not yet drive, Thats quite a predicament. There is a nearby vet that is calling me 2morrow, and they have dealt with snakes in the past, but not very many. In a rural region, not too many people keep captive snakes. I am going to moniter him closely. I hope he is going 2 be fine.

It has been 2 days, and the bleeding has not returned since the clot thing. I checked his mouth last night and examined his enclosure, both were clean. Tonight, same results. clean!:) If it starts up again, I will take him to a vet, but I think he may be fine. I will however be monitering him closely and keep handling to a bare minimum for the next 2 weeks.
