Minimal temp for Rats and ASFs?

I'm wondering what the minimal acceptable temp is for rats and asf that doesn't lessen there rate of production?

Optimal 65/75 degrees however I successfully breed rats in temps as low as 48 degrees during the winter and still achieve a production of 10/12 babies per litter.

They can breed well, and even thrive with fairly low temps.

Agreed. They really dont like hotter temps. And if they get to hot they wont breed at all. Just try to keep it under 80 and youll be fine.

Makes me wonder if everyones colony/strain is different.

Mine didnt produce too well in the 70's

Thank you for the info. I'm looking to breed them in my basement and I really don't want to have to heat a large area that is unoccupied. In the winter I'll set my thermostat as low as 64, which will get the basement down to 60 or so, but it's enough sq.ft down there that a single space heater probably would not be sufficient.

60 should be fine. If you're worried, just toss in a page of newspaper into each bin, and they'll shred it into nesting material to keep warm if they need it. :)
