    Dwarf Burmese Pythons
    Hi guys!

I am not into the burms and retics world, im more of a boa and ball python guy, and i know a guy selling a 2 year old female "dwarf burmese python". Do these really exist? Can they be trusted to be purely dwarf and not half dwarf? The thing is this guy has had it for over a year and i havent seen a huge size variation, but i would like to know from you guys if the dwarf burms exist and how big do they get... this female is a 2009 and it is about 5 feet, and relatively thin. It would be a must buy if somebody could guarantee it wont get bigger than a boa, so i let you guys talk! Here's a photo by the way!

There are dwarf burms....I have seen some, and pulled eggs off some that were less than 5 feet....with everyone trying to make morphs out of them, it is next to impossible to fine 100% pure dwarfs.......all I can say is buyer beware......there is no way to tell if it is 100% pure other than trusting the seller.....who is selling it.....?......

I'd pass unless a) you're willing to risk and take on a full grown burm or b) you are buying from a reputable breeder who can guarantee genetics. People "claim" things quite often, dwarf burms do exist but be very careful where you buy from...

First of all for those who dont know i live in Madrid (Spain). This guy is not a breeder. He just happens to have a huge reptile collection. I know him pretty well and i have bought him snakes in the past and everything has been ok! I think it is not a captive bred animal because she is being sold with CITES. He used to have a male too, but the male died, and the fact that he hasnt been able to find a male has made him end up selling her.

Like I said...buyer beware, I would get setup to take on a 15' adult, and be SUPER STOKED if it stayed less.......if you don't mind me asking, what are they selling it for?....not that I would import to US, just getting an idea what you are paying in Spain.

Like everyone else has said, if you get her, be prepared for the chance that she is a full sized Burm. Keep in mind the space she could need, the cost of food, availability of food, laws, and whether any local vets would be willing to treat such a huge animal if she does end up being full-sized. Please be very, very cautious if you do decide on her.

If it were me, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

its selling for 500 euros! I wouldnt want to house a fully grown burm... thats the main reason why i dont own one... the size they get! Thats why i will probably just pass... but as i asked in the beggining... what size do dwarfs get??

I believe a true dwarf maxes out at around 8 feet give or take, pretty much similar to a boa.

There is a subspecies of dwarf burms so if the breeder is trustworthy I'd totally go for it.

    Quote:

... the Sulawesi form of burmese python, is shown to be a dwarf form, rarely exciding 200 cm, isolated from other bivittatus geographically, and differentiated by egg size and juvenile size, less than half the size of typical bivittatus. This form is described as a new subspecies - Python bivittatus progschai.
