my pastel is still skittish since i got from reptile show help!!!!!!!!

ok since i bought my pastel he still seems to be skittish his temps are correct i thought with him being skittish he wouldnt eat and so far he has ate 3 meals from me with no problem i left him alone for a week and till this day he still skittish so will he grow out of it or would that just be his personality!?!??!?!?!?!:tears:

Well, erm, he's a ball python. :P He'll probably grow out of some of it, but these guys are naturally skittish, some more than others. Time and handling will tell.

As long as he's eating and his husbandry is proper then everything is fine. Just keep working with him and be patient! Good luck!

That's a tough one.

Each snake has a different personality however all have similar traits. Ball pythons are typically very head shy and will pull back or ball up when they feel threaten or uncomfortable.

Let him get used to his new home and he will come around. I know it is very hard with a new snake to just leave them be, but try not to handle him too much. He will settle in I'm sure, will just take some time.

These guys are shy by nature. Just be slow and patient. I always try to make mine feel secure and let them adjust to you on their terms. Don't force it; my first ball I would put her in my shirt and let her hang out in a ball. I still remember the first time she came out of her ball to start exploring. It felt great that she was getting comfortable.

They definately have their own personality, some are more friendly and outgoing than others. Time will tell. Just keep working with him in little increments, working up as he is comfortable. Good luck, he is still new so I would guess he needs more settle in time.

Just hold him! He'll become comfortable with you. Let him crawl on you. It is a natural instinct to be like he is! If something 100 times your size was messing with you, wouldn't you be scared?

:D good call.

I've had some (and have one now) that were extremely skittish until they hit about 500 grams. At that size they all started to relax.
