Just stay away from the thermostats sold at pet stores, they are junk and not worth your money.

I agree with LGray and Aaron. I bought that same one LGray posted. Got it next day from Amazon. Works perfectly fine.

And for the record, you are absolutely right about needing a t-stat! Whoever sold you your UTH should be ashamed of themselves. But I'm glad you knew better! You'll like the UTH in place of the lights - much better for humidity! :gj:

once i get the uth going...do i need to still use the lights...my house ususaly gets around 75 if not lower during the night and is extremely hot like 90- 95 during the day (we have no insulation in our house) or will the uth keep ambient heat ok and do i need to use something besides newspaper and paper towels

UTH do not change the air temperature in the cage. if the temperatures go below 75 you will need to use a heat lamp as well. I suggest that you get a 75 watt Infrared heat bulb like this one:

and get 2 of the hydrofarm thermostats.

that way the heat bulb will only turn on when needed to keep the air temperature in the cage at 80 degrees and the UTH can provide the basking temperature of 90 degrees.

I would get a ceramic heat emitter, they last way longer than glass bulbs...

Probably a true statement, but my experience with CHEs is that they kill humidity worse than heat lamps.
