    IR Temp Gun
I'm looking to buy a IR temp gun.

Are there any that I should avoid?

    How cheap is too cheap?

I don't know of any you should specifically avoid. You want one with a a tight infrared “cone” distance to spot ratio (D:S). That means if the D:S is 6:1 then at a distance of 6 inches, you would read an area of 1 inch in diameter. At a distance of 2 feet, an area of 4 inches, etc.

I have the Pro Exotics PE-2 and love it. It has a D:S of 6:1

Lowes sells one made by general that has 8:1 d:s ratio and is pretty accurate. It only runs 39.99 too!
