Easier to switch to rats from ASFs or mice?
I'm wondering which is easier to switch from? On one hand I could see ASFs being harder to switch from since they are a natural prey item, however mice stink and a BP stuck on mice might be stuck to the smell. Plus I've read were they think ASFs could be a missing link between rats and mice since they have traits of each.

I've switch from both. Usually, I start my babies on mouse or asf hoppers. Once they are feeding good, I switch over the ones I sell to f/t mouse hoppers. After they eat a few of those, then switch over to f/t rats. So far, no problems.

When I switch I thaw a rat and mouse in the same bag for a few feedings before trading the actual prey item out. Haven't had a problem with all 3 snakes.

It can be frustrating and difficult to change them from either mice or asf's if they've been eating them for a long time.

We start all of our hatchlings on asf's and mice and after 3-4 meals they go to straight to rat fuzzy's.
We have never had a hatchling not switch from mice/asf's to rats, it's the ones that are fed those prey items a long time that are difficult to switch.

with hatchlings its not to difficult to switch from either to rats. but i have had problems with sub adults that i've gotten that were on asf's. i call asf's bp crack because of it. I try to start all of my babies on rat pinkies/fuzzies depending on hatch weight that way i dont run into that issue. now if im having trouble getting one to take its first meal i'll try a mouse hopper a few times then asf's before assisting them in eating.

I bred asf for years to all my balls and then had to move to CA where they are illegal and all of mine switched no problem to rats. Only my blk pastell had trouble but she is a PITA ball python on any given day soooo....
