Sounds like building almost as ovulations are real short, like a few hours to a better part of a day.

Not true, they last 24-48 hours. I have girls that took the whole 48 to ovulate this year. I know the difference between ovy and building also.

That looks unmistakably like ovy. Congrats!

I have seen them ovy for a couple or three days. Every BP is unique. There are generalized averages of how long they'll take for any step of breeding, building, ovulatin, pre-lay shed, time from ovy to laying, incubation, absorbing the yolk, first shed, first meal, first poop, etc... With the averages, there's no absolute. Some follow the averages very closely. Others test your patience more. Kind of like the generalized averages of odds on the morph outcomes. You never can tell until they've hatched.

What was your pairing? I'm excited for you! Good luck on the odds.

I thought it might have been some extreme building when the swelling started but her lump more than doubled in size without having fed for several weeks so I'm pretty sure it was just a long, drawn out ovy. Now she looks more like she did in the beginning of April without having had any bowel movements. As to every BP being unique, is the prelay shed a guaranteed thing with just the timing being variable or is it possible to go from ovy to lay without the shed? I'm hoping she goes blue in the next week or so to give me a better idea of a lay date but who knows with this girl, she's an odd ball. Thank you everyone for your input, much appreciated, she was paired with another fire and I'm hoping to produce my first black eyed leucy this year!

I've found it easier to guess the lay date based off of the ovy, rather than pre-lay shed. Most of mine seem to be within 4-7 days of 45 days after ovy. With the pre-lay shed, we had one shed 2 times before laying. That 2nd shed sure threw me off. It was 3 or 4 days later that she laid.

I usually figure on 45 days after they're done with ovy. It's not exact, but it's usually close (almost always a couple days later, cause they like to test patience!)

Good luck on your odds for the BkEL! I LOVE those! hoping to make my own in a couple years.
