shedding

o yes another post about shedding....but its more about a humid hide....my baby is startting to shed...and i have class at night so at night i cant keep misting his tank...what can i use to make a humid hide for him besides moss?

You can get a tuberware container put the moss in there and cut a decently sized hole in it. If he chooses to use it he will go in side. A container with a lid will prevent the moss from drying out.

is there anything elese i can use..i have no moss right now and the pet store is like 45 mins away and i have to leave for school in a little bit..so no time to go..but i dont want to leave him with low humidity untill tomorrow when i can get to the store

Put a wet wash cloth in a clean butter or cool whip container. Cut a hole large enough for your snake to get into. Place the whole thing on your warm side.

Just wash the wash cloth when you get home....

I read something recently on these threads that I feel compelled to share.

Make sure the hole in the plastic does not have sharp edges and is more than large enough for the snake to fit through beyond a shadow of a doubt. The suggestion was to cut it in the edge of the lid so that if it gets stuck and pushes, the lid will pop off. I would think simply a large enough hole would be just as safe.


If you use a tank, I have seen people put a moist towel over top to bump humidity up. That should last overnight.

Man I would hope people would be smart enough not to make it with sharp edges or to small of a hole lol.

x2 on the wash cloth. My pastel just shed yesterday, Tuesday, and I tried something this time around. I notice when their eyes are clouded over or when they are in deep shed they stay in one spot and don't move around. So I took a wash cloth and got it wet. Then I would squeeze it until it doesn't drip water any more and just damp. Then I lay that damp cloth on top of his hide and had the humidity up to 80% the entire rest of the shed cycle.

I agree, but there must be some reason why the box my iron came in included a label that said, "Warning: Do Not Iron Clothes While Wearing Them"....
