One quest clion after another..
So on top of my snake not using either of his hides that last two days, while looking at him through his cage today I noticed that one of his eyes looks dented? I'm not sure if it was just a play of light, and because he seems a bit cranky I don't want to try and pull him out to get a closer look. As mentioned in another post he does have a tiny fleck of skin still on his nose (I got him from a Petsmart and they weren't sure when his last shed was). I've read about bad sheds on here and retained eye caps, but I'm not sure if this is the case here? Even if it were I don't know that I feel comfortable handling it myself since I'm a first time snake owner. Should I just take him to the vet to see if they can help/walk me through it?
*I meant one question after another.
Re: One quest clion after another..
The temps are fine, I've had trouble with humidity but am keeping it up manually with spraying until I get my UTH. He hasn't been using his hide on either side, though, for the last couple of days. He did take his food Sunday without hesitation. I want to post pictures, but like I said I'm kind of nervous to pick him up because he seems a little "moody." He didn't look wrinkly to me, but I haven't seen him outside of cage the last couple of days either. I did have a humid hide in there, but took it out today because he wasn't using it at all.
That's about all the info I have until I can get a picture. I'm kinda worried. :(
Re: One quest clion after another..
Sometimes if the humidity isn't correct in the cage, tank, whatever your set up the eye will have a dimple effect. Obviously without pictures it's super hard to tell if it's stuck skin or what. My albino python looks super wrinkly right before he shed. It's also the only time he hisses when I go to grab him. You could try putting him in a tub with a towel at the bottom and warm water. (I have found the towel helps them get a grip on the slippery tub and they tend to relax a lot more) Fill it up so the water isn't any higher than his sides.
Be careful with spraying down the tank everyday. Too much humidity causes Respiratory Infections and depending on your substrate promotes bad bacteria growth. I personally use Cyprus bedding and even with my Rainbow Boa which requires a 70-80% humidity I haven't had any issues with bacteria or infections.
