Dwarf Rats

Anyone know any breeders around Dallas-Fort Worth area that sell dwarf rats? I am very intrigued and want to start a small project.

Or maybe close-ish to DFW?

I would also be interested if you find anyone.

I can't get them out of my head since I saw a post about them. I know they are high at the moment but I just want to start small and see how it goes.

Can't believe how they are the exact same just smaller and I guess a little more "hyper" if you will. LOL

Okay, before today, I thought dwarf and BESiamese were kinda cute, but after those big dumbo ears and those big dark eyes - whew! I was wrong. THEY ARE ADORABLE! Mike & MeowMeow: think we can convince SnakesRKewl to tell us if there will be a few gorgeous little dwarfs for sale someday? ;)

We'll start a Rat Train and transport them to the South!! :D

If your looking for a pet Dumbos are the way to go IMO. More laid back and real easy to handle. I have many rats that are slightly smaller then others but I never really paid attention myself. I know if female get bredd to soon sometimes they will stay a smaller size...

I breed standard rexes and dumbo rexes. I have seen no correlation that only dumbos are more laid back and easy to handle. IMO, both ears can be easy or difficult to handle. It depends on the individual, not the ears.

Dumbos really are no different than top eared in personality, but might seem so since most dumbo's have been selectively bred a bit more than most top eared..
I have only one top eared female that a friend gave me, she is every bit as friendly and personable as my dumbo rats.

Dwarfism is a genetic trait that reduces the growth hormone, it's not random and it's not from selectively breeding small females. Small females are still double or triple the size of adult female dwarf rats, it really is amazing how small the female dwarfs stay.
I have no pics of an adult because I sold them off as fast as I made them :(

I do agree a female rat bred too young tends to stay smaller than ones that were held back until maturity, but that's another topic not related to dwarfism :)
