Filter suggestions for a 55 gallon tank with Gator

Does anyone have filter suggestions for a normal 55 gallon tank that won't be filled all the way (about 1/4-1/2 the way).

The filter would need a long enough hose to reach the bottom of the tank if hung on the side, and be strong enough to bring the water up and through the filter.

It also needs to be good enough to handle that type of waste.

Any suggestions?

Marineland is good they are strong and good enough to support saltwater tanks so I would imagine it could handle the waste, and you could also get a filter for a 90 gallon tank so the gallons per hour is a much higher rate.

Your best bet is to go with a canister filter. Like an eheim. When you put the hose in it should reach to the bottom. If not, you can lengthen the hose. They filter very well and if you put bio balls in one of the baskets you create a healthy bacteria colony to keep water clear. When I was using canister filters for a large aquarium I had I used carbon in a mesh bag in one basket (the carbon and mesh bag are both available at pet stores), bio balls in another basket, and the regular fiber filters in another. I'd spray out the filters during cleaning time with my shower head.

I would recommend getting a Fluval. I've been using them on our Cichlid tanks for years and absolutely love them! Something like the 405 or 406 should be more than capable to handle the load you are looking at.
