    Keeping males within breeding weight
Hey guys, obviously males are going to be bred for many years. I know that they should be between 650 - 1000 grams to be optimal breeders, and I keep reading that breeders "keep them at that weight".

How exactly do you do this? Do you just feed smaller meals? Less frequently?
And isn't the male just going to grow longer anyway, so you will end up with a really thin snake?

Since when Male "need" to be certain weight to be optimal Breeder??
Opinion that Big males are "lazy" breeders is one of myth of this hobby...
Males goin off feed almost all the time durring "breeding season" so bigger male with nice storage of energy gonna have better chavce to breed more females... and less chances that when he will go "off feed" that perion of time will have negative efect on him.

I have males over 1000 grams that breed just fine :gj:

I feed my males weekly and they get small rats 55/65 grams, my biggest male is about 1400 grams.

I prefer that my males stay on the smaller side (1,000-1,200), of course they are going to get heavier with age, but the young ones don't need to be monstrous. I feed smaller meals and during breeding season I switch over to feeding small meals once every two weeks rather than once every week. I haven't had a male go off fed for the last two breeding seasons that I have tried that.

helo guys, i also have similar question here

i have one male (850 grams) that still wants to eat.

my question is that still ok to feed him weekly as a regular?

i am afraid that he will be overweight and going to be lazy later

i got him last Septmber 2011 (120 grams) and i dont think he is mature enough to breed right ?

    thanks

If your snake wants to eat, feed him! Weight doesn't determine sexual maturity, but he is probably physically ready at 7/8 months old and 850g.

    thanks for the reply

ok i would not stop or minimize his meals as long he still wants to eat.

talking about his maturity, do you think he is up for mating now ?

im afraid he still has not produce any sperms.
