I got a pic of the same snake in the caresheet

Has'nt changed my mind one iota.......Obviously (I dont know the story behind this picture)but this was a case where the prey and snake were left alone. I watch the entire process from introduction to the swallowing of the prey. I would never allow my Monty Joe to be left alone while he is feeding. And the critter that did this to this snake I doubt was a small thing, look's like it was tossed into a fan. If snake and prey are monitored, this would never happen. So the answer is no. Still havent changed my mind.

OK- got to admit. The pic is disturbing. But, I agree with Ironhead. I feed my boys live prey, I have tried to change them over, and I have to give in to thier wants. So, no, the pic has not changed my mind due to the fact that I ALWAYS stay and watch all 3 of my boys while they are going through the feeding process. And, we dont really know the whole story on that snake, but I bet its prey was pretty big to do that..and it was LEFT ALONE with no one to make sure this did not happen. Yes choosing what you are going to feed your snake is important, but if you are willing to be right there through the whole process to protect against this..it is fine to feed live.

yes but........if the snake raps it up wrong then it can still get bitten even if you are watching it.
that is obviously is a worse case senario
but one bite could lead to infection

if your snake will not take frozen thawed then thats a different story but you mite as well try

Before I feed a rat to my snakes, I put it inside a couple of brown paper bags and smack it in the pavement my hardest. Usually that kills them but sometimes it takes a couple more times. When I had boa constrictors I always fed them live prey even as babies. The only reason that I'm begining to feed my bp's freshly killed is cause my boas were always a hassle to take out of their enclosure due to the fact of feeding live prey. I did feed them in different enclosures up until they reached 5ft+, then I couldn't find a box that big to feed them in. Anyways I'm getting off the topic, just knock the rats out, you shouldn't have a problem.
