What size do you begin pairing your males?
Hey guys! I know this has probably been talked about a hundred times, however, I couldn't dig up a recent thread so I thought I would ask once more. I had come across a post on facebook actually where a breeder in my home state had posted a picture of his 270 gram male locked up with a 2000 gram female. I have been holding off on Sinatra until he was 500 grams, but I am curious if anyone has any opinions on this? How big are your boys before you try to pair them?
Re: What size do you begin pairing your males?
As other people have said it depends on the male. Most males I dont even try until they are 500g or so, but there have been a few where Ive just been impatient. Both my pewter and pastel butter I started pairing when they were about 350g (different breeding seasons). My pewter didnt start breeding until he hit 700g, but my pastel butter locked with the first female he saw. I was a lot more careful with my pastel butter to make sure he didnt lose any weight, but hes just a little stud.
Bad pic of my pastel butter at 360g breeding a 2000g pastel female.

I started breeding my Phantom boy at 420 grams and he bred like a champ. Once he went off feed for a few weeks I stopped breeding him gave him a bath and he began eating again. I didn't breed him anymore as I figured I'll just start getting him ready for next season.
