All good things must come to an end
On Monday I was asked to leave the company I have been working at since August 2010. This job took me 1,000 miles away from everyone a knew, but it was too good to pass up. I will still have my job for about another two weeks to wrap everything up but that's not much time to find a new job, or so I thought.

Monday night I sat down with a friend and updated my resume. I posted it to Monster.com late Monday night and I've gotten several phone calls since then about possible positions locally. Most of the contacts have been through recruiting firms but I seem to have passed their pre screening and they are sending my resume and information on.

Even though I am losing my job I can't help but feel that I will make it through this. The amount of attention my resume has gotten in the past two days has amazed me and I'm starting to worry a little less that I'm going to have to sell my collection (my backup plan). I won't find a job that pays as well as my currently one, but I could get to work with newer technology (I'm a computer programmer), so I think I will be happier in the end.

This is probably a bit much to share on an internet forum, but the past few days have been a series of extreme ups and downs and I just needed to share for some reason.

Im sorry to hear that. But glad to hear all the attention your resume has gotten so far. Maybe you can find an even better job somewhere else that youll enjoy more. I would hold off on selling your snakes only as a last resort.

Am sending virtual luck your way :) I've been out of a job since I left college and moved a bit further north to live with my Grandparents and that was June 2010. Its a complete nightmare, but I'm still keeping my chin up in hope!

Stay positive, you'll find something :)

Sorry to hear your position was cut. I'm in a similar situation. My government civilian position with the Air Force ends on 30 April. I'm taking it as an opportunity to go back home and go back to school. Both of which I've been wanting to do for quite some time.

In times of change, always be on the lookout for new opportunities and never be afraid to take the path least traveled. You might be surprised how well things can work out if you give them a chance.

Kinra, I hope you land on your feet and do well. I know it is of little comfort, but I lost a job many years ago. Only by looking back, can I understand that it was the best thing that ever happened to me. It spurred me on to finish my education and I'm now in a much better position in every respect (financially, environment, etc.) than I was then. Best of luck and keep us informed.

Thanks everyone. :) I really do love this community, you are all so supportive.

I'm pretty excited about the new jobs I've been contacted about so far. Most of them are for what I would rather be doing. I have 6 promising leads so far. 5 are through recruiting companies, 4 of them have already passed my information along (at least one company is interested and wants to speak with me soon) and I have an interview with the last recruiting company on Monday. The last promising lead I have is from a company that wants to do a phone interview with me tomorrow. Most of this actually happened in the past 2 hours and has completely blown my mind.

I don't need to worry about selling my collection unless I don't find a job by May and even that it would be a completely last resort.

I hope everyone out there who is also looking for a job finds one that they love. :please:

I will keep you all updated on how things go. :)

Oh man that would really suck. I couldn't imagine being told I didn't have a job anymore. We lost an entire program of 30 people at my job last summer and I wouldn't have known what to do if I was one of those people. That is really awesome that you already have offers and calls though!!! In the end I think it will be for the best!
