    Where can I get mice?
I just got my first ball python, and the place I got it from said that the next time i should feed him is on Sunday. Where can I get good mice, and about how much will they cost?

You can either get them local from a reptile shop (or even a big box pet store but you will pay way too much there) or online frozen

I really like Rodent Pro. they have really good prices and their shipping cost isn't too bad. (you need to buy a few months supply at a time to offset the shipping costs. I buy 6 months worth and save about $250 vs buying local

Any reptile or petstore should carry some. Some local feeder breeders advertise on Craigslist too. I also recommend switching to rats. When your ball out grows a single mouse, its easier to feed 1 rat compared to multiple mice.

@satomi325 Thank you, when should I switch to rats. My ball python right now is 1.5 feet long and about 1 year old.

You can switch anytime. It may or may not be instant as some balls are set in their ways. All of my balls, but one started on rats since the day they hatched. The one who ate mice switched right away for me though. I offered both the mouse and rat at the same time. The snake ate the mouse, then the rat second(guess the mouse scent was still around). He's been on rats ever since.

How much does your snake weight? That should determine the size to feed. I suggest trying out rat pups first since your snake has never had one yet. And they're about the same size as a mouse.

The place you bought the snake from should sell feeder mice and rats. Just go back in and ask them if they do, the worst they can say is no. ;)

If my ball python does not go after his rat, how long should I leave the rat with him. I don't want the rat to bite my snake or anything.

Never leave it alone, you need to watch it until you are sure it is dead or you remove the rat. I don't ever go longer than 10 minutes

Any pet store should sell F/T and live, also don't just try offering one way and quit if your animal doesn't take it. A lot of BPs are different. Some like it dangled in front of them, some like it left in over night(f/t only!) some take f/t some don't. The point is find your snakes preference and stick to it........until they decide other wise. Good luck :)
