switching set up for my bp
Okay so I really have had it ! Since I bought my first bp about a month ago I had him in a ten fam glass tank as well as my other 3 corns ( all have thier own ) lol well my corns temps are always usually about the same but I have been fed up with the daily I mean all day every day task of trying to keep temps/ humidity right for him so now my question I have a sterilite 28 qt tub with lid .. first is it ok to switch him? Second he is in the shedd process bnow and really feels like it been a long time like almost a week or so hasn't shedd yet as of now humidity is at 70 temp in air 82 hot side 90 but it starts to go up and down through the day and night uhhh now do I have to wait until After he finally sheds to move him?

It would really depend on how big he is and his personality. For the most part, balls seem to like small, confined spaces (especially compared to corns) so the 28 might seem a bit large to him at first. You'd need the 2 hides, etc and see how he did with it. Also, they can take a while to shed. I have an adult corn that takes about 8-9 days with his even though he doesn't have any problems with it. Some just take longer than others. As for moving him during shed, it depends on his personality. Since you've only had him about a month, I'd wait until he was done with the shedding process because it may stress him more than necessary and it shouldn't hurt to wait a couple more days.

As long as he's been eating regularly for you, it's definitely okay to switch him! The most important thing to consider is his size. I generally like to give my snakes enough room to stretch out 3/4 of their body length in a tub, but I know others do it differently. I would also still provide him with hides at least at first since he'll have to adjust all over again.

But it's amazing how much easier tubs are to maintain compared to tanks, and much nicer to move around and transport as well. I used to keep my first bp in a tank too until I came to the same realization, and now I would never go back to tanks! (for most snakes at least)

And yes, I would definitely wait until he's done shedding to switch him over. If it's already been a week then it should only be a few more days :)

If you think the 28 qt tub is too big for him right now, use some crumpled up paper to take up the excess space until he's big enough to use it. This method has worked for many of us.

I put hatchlings as small as 120 grams straight into 32 qt Iris tubs. With a couple of hides and some crunched up kraft paper in there to take up space, they feel right at home.

Thanks everyone! I was wondering how many holes should I start with I'm in Michigan and the humidity in my room likes to stay around 40 to 50%

Is there a rule of thumb for growth speed of bp's? Maybe i should be looking into extra tubs just in case

Start out with about half as many as you think you might need, and adjust from there. You can always add more, but if you have too many you'll need to tape them over. Better to start out with too few than too many.

No, they all grow at their own rate.

They all grow at their own rate but most of mine seem to grow at 50-100 grams per month... But they don't grow at a regular rate.
