HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?? Found in my Garage and want to know what it is.
I walked out into my garage tonight and found this little itty bitty snake. I want to know what it is, I have small children and want to be sure what is in my yard. Sorry the pics aren't great. Thanks in advance!!

I'm sure its nothing harmful to my kids, but would rather people who have more experience ID the snake. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.

    Is it black ?

My first thought is a black rat snake baby. They can get quite large, but are just as harmless as our ball pythons.

I see them in my yard now and then. I'm always happy to have them around, they are great at keeping field mice out of the house.

It's hard for me to tell from the pics, is the snake black or brown, and, can you tell what the belly looks like? Also, what part of the country do yo live in?

It looks to be grayish/black. No clue about the belly. I live in Northeast Texas. About an hour outside of Dallas.

I grew up in that area. It's probably a black racer. As was previously mentioned, a type of rat snake...

Yeah, I'm not so sure it's a racer/rat snake...don't babies/juvies normally have quite noticeable pattern?? And the head doesn't look right for them either...

Is the skin between the scales orange or have a copper hue?
Biards Ratsnake are native to parts of Tx.

Do an image search on the net for a good comparison.
