Selling your babies

Some time in the next couple years im going to try my hand at some breeding =P I'm really excited about it sense snakes are my passion and my fiancé's too. I plan on getting one male and one more females for a total of 1 male and 2 females to start with.

My question is does anyone have a hard time selling their babies? Is it all a matter of if your a known breeder?

Not really interested in money or anything but it would be unrealistic to keep every snake produced from more then one season in a row...

It really depends on what the babies are that you produce? If you breed a pastel male those females the babies may be hard to sell...

So it depends on what morphs your working with and I'm guessing the quality of the morphs you produce.

What about any normals that come out of pairing? I would hate to see them go to bad homes =(

It'll be up to you where they end up...you could always give them to friends who are capable of caring for a snake. There's no guarantee, regardless of $ value, that any snake will be going to a good home. If someone inquires, and anything raises flags or troubles you, you are well within your rights to deny them of making a purchase. You can also wholesale your normals off to someone that will resell them.

Honestly, before you begin breeding, you should be prepared to keep anything you produce for the remainder of it's life. There is no guarantee you will sell them.

How can you assure they all go to good homes. Well again, to be honest, you can't ever be totally sure unless you only sell to people you know. Something else to think about before you start.

I recently sold 4 baby balls..2 normals and 2 pastels. I have 4 others..3 supers and another pastel that I am keeping. I had no difficulty selling the 4.

I understand that by brining animals into this world I have to be prepared to keep them all and take care of them. which wouldn't be a problem for one season.

Bp's average 6 eggs right? So we will just average 12 baby snakes from 2 females. That would bring my total to 15 animals. If these do not sell it wouldn't be a problem for me. I just wouldn't breed the following season.

I also understand that there is no way to guarantee any of them will go to a good home unless I keep them myself. I think that it is unfortunate but this is something anyone who breeds anything will have to come to terms with... =/

Does anyone else have any advice on this subject? I know it's probably not really something to share like a trade secret or something but everyone that breeds can't possibly be keeping every animal they produce... Although I'm sure we would all want to =P haha

There is always someone out there looking for what you have. Sometimes it takes a little longer. Just be patient and keep advertising and price competitively. Good luck once you get goin. It is alot of fun going through the whole breeding process.

Many people have a hard time selling their babies. A couple people are simply giving their normal bearded dragons babies to my local pet shop because they can't sell them at any price. I doubt normal ball python breeders in my area are even breaking even on food.

Many people have an easy time selling their babies but they work hard at it. Selecting high quality parents and making your presence known either through advertising or even just posting on forums will help. Quality animals will speak for themselves whether your a known breeder or not but be prepared to work harder than an established breeder to sell them (especially hets).

yeah be prepared I am housing 1/2 hets and a the parent albino and het female that produced them and i been tryingo t sell them for almost a year now, what sucks the most is the way the market on (anything really 0 will drop out once x people start to produce a morph)
