    snake stretching
My snake has been roaming the top cage for an hour or so, poking his head around all the corners. He is usually balled up. I usually never see him out during the day. He did finish a shed a couple of days ago.
Is he trying to tell me something?
    Thanks,
    Todd

What are the cage temperatures and humidity?

When was the last time he ate?

My thoughts exactly. One other possibility, the dreaded "M" word. Have you checked for mites? But, hunger would be my first guess.

thanks for the input everyone! He may be hungry , its been a week and a day. I have been going a bit longer to about 9 to 10 days for the past few feedings. He is about 10 months old.

I was using a lamp on top for the COOL end. Bottom heat mat for the hot side. I got rid of the top lamp as it has always sucked all the humidity out.
Is it ok to just run Under mat heater on hot side ?
The snake is haning under his rock on the cool side . It is 76 degress now. Hot side is 83. Will he go to the hot side if he is too cool?
    Thanks,
    Todd

Does the heat mat have a thermostat?

your temperatures sound like they are off. the hot side needs to be between 88-92 degrees and the cool side needs to be between 78-82 degrees. (no part of the cage should ever be below 75 or above 95)

What are you using to measure temperatures/humidity?

Heat mats do not affect the air temperature in the cage so you need a probed thermometer so you can monitor it.

Yes the ideal heating set up is a heat mat on the hot side and a heat lamp (if necessary) to maintain the air temperature in the cage.

What are you using for substrate and how thick of a layer is there?
