Hog Island vs. Columbian

I'm considering getting a boa in the near future and I'm looking at a Columbian that I really like, and a Hog that I really like. I don't know anyone personally who keeps boas, and I just thought I'd ask around and find out if there are any general personality differences between the two.

I know that Hog Islands are *generally* smaller, but other than that I'm basically in the dark. I've been looking around online, but mostly just finding general Boa information, which is definitely helpful - but not really what I need.

I will be continuing my online search for information - Still trying to find a great care sheet, but I haven't been looking that long :P - but any information you guys feel like sharing would be great!

Edit: Obviously I've gotten a few general care sheets from google, just not putting 100% faith in them after seeing differences between Ball Python care sheets from google searches and then the things I've learned here.. :)

I own both and while the answer doesn't help they all have their own personalities. My hogs in general seem to pretty laid back but seem to put on a tough act when I got to take them out. They like to watch my hand when I reach in but I also keep them in tubs where my red tails are in cages.

I think it honestly comes down to what size boa you want to work with, they are both great. I won't lie my female red tail is my favorite, but I've also had her the longest. She does wonderful when I take her to shows and is extremely tolerant of being handled for very long periods with different people petting her. That being said my male hog island boa did wonderful at the last show I took him too as well. (I bring some of my animals when I help out my local herp society at different educational events we do, the last one we did was a kid's expo.)

I give the same care to my hogs that I give to my red tails. Neither is overly hard to care for. The only problem I have with any of them is that my female hog doesn't like to eat f/t yet. She prefers her food live. >_<

Alright, that's cool. I didn't expect there to be a huge difference in terms of temperament between the two, but since I have no hands on experience I figured I'd check :)

I'm leaning towards Hog, just because smaller cages = less money :P

I know a general rule for BPs is 1 square foot of space per foot of snake - is there something like that for Boas? I'm planning on getting an animal plastic cage for my BP, and I was wondering if the foot high ones work for boas as well, or if they need more height in their enclosures.

Hogs are awesome and I certainly love mine. To me they are the boa personality in ball python size. :P

Boas are better climbers than BPs, but they don't need to climb to be happy. My girl is the only one who has something to actually climb on but she spends most of her time in her hide. So I guess it comes down to what you want to do. They will climb if you give them height and something to climb on, but they are also happy just being on the ground.

My BCI has gone in her hide maybe...once since I've had her. lol. I don't have a Hog, but as far as BCIs go...I ADORE my female BCI. She is the most intelligent and social snake I've ever had. Best decision I've made so far in the realm of herping.

I have never owned a Hog Island boa, but I do have Sabogae "Pearl Island" boas, Central Americans, and Colombians. I do like how small the Pearl Islands and Central Americans are, but I do love my Colombians. They are just so large and docile. They are more fun to handle than the small ones, IMO.

I've decided on getting a BCI from the breeder I got my mojave BP from .. just trying to decide between a het albino normal and an anery :)
