Try for a late season?

Some good friends of mine have offered to pair my big female normal BP with a spider, pastel and mojave male. She is over 1600 grams and the breeding season goes through March. She has said that the three males are still locking and going strong. We have talked about how some breeders would take all the morphs and leave me the normals, and that she won't do that. We have agreed to take turns picking babies, one at a time. I am hoping for a female spider and pastel to pair with my male pastel and make supers and bumblebees. We are using her incubator, she has a fancy high-tech one with 99% hatch rate. She is ready now and could be over 1700 grams by the time she is gravid. Should I go ahead and try for a late season and some morphs or wait until November when she will probably be over 2000 grams and have a ten egg clutch? If I wait and breed in November I will have my own incubator, my own pastel will be ready to go and maybe pair her with the spider too and keep most of the babies.

Up to you, just depends if you are in a hurry to get some babies... Either way just make sure you go through proper quarantine when introducing any new snake to your setup.

i threw my cinny male in with cinny female after he stopped breeding for a month and sure enough he locked up. if everything is good health wise give it a shot if ur ready for the responsibility of taking care of the offspring

Well, you're not looking at breeding immediately, because if your girl goes to your friend, she needs to quarantine her for sixty days before introducing the male, or if the male comes to you - you need to quarantine him for sixty days before breeding - so you're looking at May now for starting to breed.

Some breeders are breeding year round.

Whatever you decide - ESPECIALLY if it's a friend, you need to draw up a contract that states exactly how you plan to split the clutch, who's responsible for any vet bits, what the replacement cost would be if the loaned animal dies in the other's care, and so on.

And it's not very common in my experience that in a breeding loan one person gets just normals while the other walks away with all the morphs.

Also, remember that a big female does not automatically mean a 10 egg clutch. My 3000g+ girl gives me 6 eggs every 3 years or so, while my 1800g girl looks like shes going to drop 7-8 for the second year in a row.

As tempting as it may be, I would just wait (me personally). 2 reasons, first you have to wait out QT period. Second if you just wait a few more months, everything will be yours. No second party involved.

Exactly what I was thinking...

Id wait Evan. Yes i know bigger snake doesnt mean bigger clutches all the time but generally thats the case. Plus youll get to keep all of the babies and be able to sell the extras rather than have to split them with your friend. Patience young jedi...
