Re: asf 911~ questions on pinkies, mom and such and stuff
When I started breeding ASF's, they would either neglect or eat the babies...I don't know why, or what has changed since, but they do ok now. I actually would take my ASF pinkies and put them in with nursing mice, which worked wonderfully.
Re: asf 911~ questions on pinkies, mom and such and stuff
I wouldn't even know how to go about feeding pinkies other than a really, really small bottle...
I don't think separating them is the way to go though...don't quote me on this, but once a colony of ASF's is together and reproducing, separating them and re-introducing them can lead to pretty vicious behavior.

Re: asf 911~ questions on pinkies, mom and such and stuff
ASF's are a less is more rodent.
Keep up your cleaning routine and make sure they always have food and water.
Otherwise leave them alone.
ASF's need to stay in colonies. Unlike other rodents the back to back breeding doesn't seem to hurt the mothers at all, they're built for it. And if you do break a colony up for any length of time they might fight when you try to reintroduce them.
The entire colony will help take care of all the babies. Sometimes first time mothers are confused but usually they settle down if you leave them in peace. If this litter doesn't make it just be patient, she figure it out for sure next time.

I would leave them alone. She will figure it out. You are probably adding stress to the situation by messing with her, and her babies, and moving them. Yes, the colony will take care of the babies. No they don't sit on them 24/7. Our first litter the mommas killed the only two babies. Now they all take care of them. Even dad takes his turn checking on the kids. They are great moms, and very protective. Watch your self when messing with the babies. Take a breath, and smile, you have babies!
