How Deep to Make Incubation Substrate?
So my girl is due to lay next week (god I hope she doesn't go early and lay while I'm at NARBC this weekend!!). I got the incubator fired back up tonight (I did a test run when I 1st built it but turned it off till now) and I'm thinking I'll just set up the egg tub whenever I see eggs...unless ya'll think I should have that ready too? I'm planning to do the substrate-less method with vermiculite and a light diffuser. I'm using 6qt Sterilite tubs. How deep do you make the substrate? I was thinking somewhere around 1.5in? I actually have no frame of reference for how large bp eggs are and I'm worried if I make it too deep then I won't be able to fit the top on the tub. Am I being silly? Thanks guys!
Re: How Deep to Make Incubation Substrate?
LOL, Im worried about the same thing, one of my girls is due to lay next week also and I'm going to go to the NARBC show in Tinley as well. I would get the tub ready so it can warm up as well, thats what I do anyway. I'm doing the light diffuser as well and I put about 1.5 inches down, but I'm using a 12.7 qt tub.
Re: How Deep to Make Incubation Substrate?
cant wait for TINLEY :D , to hold the eggs get some straws place under the light diffuser and on each side of the egg it should do the trick for the eggs if there not stuck together. or clips (as pictured ) i would suggest to warm up the egg tub so when the eggs come, its right to the incudator.
