Nice juvi Red tail boa. I have a couple of them and they are awesome. Way different from bps though.
Try to hold him as much as you can to calm him down because big feisty red tails suck.

Any way to tell if he's anything but normal

That is a very nice normal BCI. Just to be clear, he isn't really a Red Tail Boa. A true Red Tail would be Boa Constrictor constrictor and what you have is known as the common Colombian or Central American Boa which is Boa Constrictor imperator.

The pics are a little greyed out so it's a bit hard to see just what his coloring is like, but he does appear to simply be a normal. If he's carrying any special trait or is of any specific local which might increase his value, it is impossible to tell from appearances. The only way to know would be if you had paperwork from the original breeder. Normal BCIs are pretty common. Most people wouldn't pay more than about $50 for one that size. You can find them on kingsnake and fauna for as low as $30. Pricing is about the same as for a normal BP.

Pretty snake though, good luck. You should keep him, they're fun snakes, especially the fiesty ones. ;)
