I am using sand but hear lots of people say to use aspen. Is sand okay? Also do they tend to be easy to handle as they get older? I see a lot of YouTube videos of people getting ksb that grow up to be pretty squirmy and nippy.

they dont seem to mind sand, but even aside from impaction, sand is dusty, a pain to clean, gets everywhere and harbours more bacteria. I personally use aspen for most of those reasons, plus I get huge bags of it for other critters, and just can't see getting and keeping yet another substrate.

I see alot more people using aspen now. On here and youtube. Its probably better than sand for the reasons ppl already mentioned. Im curious about their temperments too tho, i see some that are fast and wont sit still like a milksnake and others that are super calm like a bp...?
