Halmahera ground boas are members of the genus "Candoia" which consists of several species of both ground and tree boas found in the south Pacific from Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya to the Solomon Islands and Indonesia. They are small snakes usually ranging in size of only 2-3 feet. Candoia paulsoni tasmai is found only on the island of Halmahera which is located Northwest of Irian Jaya. They are uncommon in the reptile community and are often overlooked. They tend to be quite hardy and do not require any special considerations in captivity although neonates must generally be started feeding on geckos and/or tree frogs.
