    When using paper towels
As a substrate how much layers do you use and how well does it hold humidity

I use a single layer, they don't do anything for humidity

I used paper towels for a long time...only ever used 1 layer, 1 towel for a 6 qt container, 2 for 15 qt containers, 4 for 32 qt containers. Never had problems with humidity. I've recently switched over to unprinted newspaper.

I have paper towels that break into half sheets, so I use 5 half sheets folded over. As for humidity, it doesn't do much unless the snake deviously knocks over his water bowl. Then I've got 100% humidity till I change the paper towel.

    Hello,

I use two layers of paper towels (the type doctors use, I don't know how they are called, but they're basically very wide and happen to match the depth of my tank perfectly). You can see how they look like here.

It's really not great for holding humidity, you will have to use a large water bowl and perhaps cover some of the openings of your enclosure to have an acceptable humidity rate. If you try to mist your tank, expect it to look (and be) messy.

However it really good for absorbing urine and can be disposed and changed quickly.

Just move the water bowl closer to the warm side to increase your humidity, spraying will wet the paper towels and spike your humidity to unwanted ranges.

I use Bounty Select-a-Size paper towels for my tubs. They usually work out to be 2 layers thick over most of the tub. For my 41 qt tubs, 5 half-sheets are the right length, but too narrow. I take two strips of five and lay them so they curl up slightly at the sides, and the middle of the tub ends up 2 layers thick.

EDIT: You can mist very lightly to raise humidity a bit, but not so much that the paper towel is wet. I'd say just move the water bowl over the heat to increase humidity, or consider running a humidifier in the room.

You certanly don't want your BP laying in wet paper towel. He's got enough stressors right now with the mites. If you need to raise humidity, I would suggest covering half or more of the tank with a damp bath towel.
