    morph prices and questions
Went to the LPS today with my girlfriend to get her a new fish and we went to a new pet store that just opened up, well this place was really nice i went to there reptile section and apparently they breed ball pythons, i looked at a baby mojave and baby lemon pastel, both beautiful snakes, i wanted both but i wasnt to sure if the prices were right, the lemon pastel was 200 and the mojave was 280 can someone tell me if those are good prices? also the lemon i could tell wasnt held a lot it just stayed stretched out in my hand and was in the S poition and stayed really stiff she actually struck at someone walking by lol but ive never seen a snake get so stiff and stay stretched out like that even though i am a bit of a noob when it comes to snakes, the mojave was really nice too i would deff pick him over the pastel. also they deff take care of the snakes they weren't skinny or anything, no bad sheds properly maintained tanks ect. so i do trust buying one from them, also they had baby normals that were het clowns dont know what that means but had really nice markings for a normal, they were 40 bucks can someone also explain what a het clown is?

if they are good representations of their morphs, those prices are about right

although with the pastel there is a pretty big price difference between males and females ($75-$125 for males, and $175-$225 for females)

het clown means that it carries a recessive gene for the clown mutation. by pairing 2 het clowns you have a chance at production a clown ball python

read up on recessive genetics if you want more information this thread should help: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...Basic-Genetics

I think the price on the mojave is a bit high for it as well if it is a male.

If the het clowns are females buy all of them.

Always remember no pet store prices are gonna be within market for the animals. They will always be higher and in most cases ive seen poor quality. Now keep in mind im judging the pet stores around here that i have been to over the years

If this place breeds ball pythons than they have a good idea on what things are going for in the market and price accordingly. For a pet store to make money they need to place a premium on things to account for overhead. With that said I would guarantee that those hets are all males. No breeder would sell het anything females that cheap. Have them give you sex guarantees on what you buy and if they won't believe me there are better prices on the classified websites out there. Good luck.

my guess is that they are all 50% poss Hets at that price, either that or there just isn't any local demand for het clowns
