I have a bag of hatchrite but I was wondering can I go to an organic gardening place and get a large bag of vermiculite and perilite and mix it on my own or do I need to buy it from a pet supplier so it is sanetized and everything. I could even put the stuff from the garden place in the oven and it doesn't say it has any chemicals. How do the big breeders do it? I only have one female that I know is going to have eggs but I just bought 2 more adults and a bunch of babies and I might be sol if I don't figure it out.

Im not sure where the big breeders get some vermiculite from, but a while back i tried out just buying it from like a department store and didnt clean it or sanitize it and it worked fine. I just buy it from a pet store now though to be safe. :)

From anywhere should be fine, you just want to make sure that there are no additives like MiracleGro or other fertilizers.

    Everyone covered it.
    Make sure it say 100%vermiculite

IMO you cant go wrong with just Vermiculite, it has always worked for me.

I bought a huge bag of vermiculite at a garden center, has lasted 2 years and will probably last 2 more. No need to clean it or bake it. As mentioned, just make sure there are no additives.
