Should I try live? Female feeding issues
Back story. I bought a 1600g female from the classifieds. The previous people said she only eats live. She was kept way to dry and she had some eye caps. After 2 sheds and 4 month of having her she is brighter and no caps! She hasn't eaten since November tho. Now I know this is normal for a female her age. She got up to 2000g fast and has hovered around the 1900g mark for the past 3 months whist on her fast. When I first got her she took f/t no problem. Then she stopped eating. This past feeding day she showed interest in the rat after heating with a hair dryer but no strike. Should I throw a live in next week to see if she will take that? I don't want to scare her off f/t tho? Experts? Thanks guys.

I would give live a shot, just be careful with it. if she does' take it then you know that she is just off feed for the breeding season. I doubt 1 live rat will turn her away from F/T in the long run.

I have had the same experience . We bought a full grown male that was only eating live. Tried unsuccessfully to switch to ft. He fed occasionally . Then tried fk little better . Tried a live one and he has not missed a beat. Sorry but you might have to pay for past feeding habits. Just be careful watch and keep a pair of tongs handy.

She ate like 3 or 4 frozen rats from me no problem right after I got her. I'm not too worried because she hasn't lost much weight but it's just odd me being a human and all this not eating thing. I need food every few hours, let alone take months off from eating. It's weird.
