    questions about habitat
I'm wanting to really go all out and decorate my fire's tank. Questions are 1: can anybody tell me what live plants are safe for bp's or maybe a site that can tell me. And 2: will UV lights hurt bp's? I know they don't need them but are they harmful to them? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

    The Serpent Merchant
A fluorescent UV bulb for plants won't harm your BP.

Be warned, BP's can be very rough on live plants.

Nothing wrong with going all out on the tank, just keep in mind that all those plants and fu-fu decorations are for you, as your snake could care less. Don't let the decoration bug get in the way of maintaing a proper enclosure that meets your BP's husbandry needs.

I agree with slim. Just get what he needs and make him happy. :gj:

Thank you everybody for the feedback. Yes the decor is all for me. Lol. I want to put my fire in the living room so people can see her instead of tucked away in the bedroom. Plus next season I'm crossing my fingers for a perfect scaled super fire. :P. And thank you Kitedemon for the websites, very helpful.

I used to have my bp in a natural vivarium. I grew Pothos (devil ivy), bamboo, some sort of fern type plant, and a bunch of those orchid plants that i bought at an expo. The orchids were the ones that just grew in the air so i attached them to branches all around the tank. It looked really good but the maintenance involved with it eventually became too much of a pain for me. I suggest mixing lives plants with fakes plants.
This book, along with all of Vesoloji's other books, really helped me. I find all of his books to be fairly informative and better than other ones out there.

Also remember, everything that you put in there will need to be cleaned. Not sure how new to all this you are, but my balls generally smear poo into every crevice and onto every piece of decor in their enclosures. And, of course, as the snake gets larger, so doesn't their poo ;)
