    Defrosting first rat!
My girl has been a mouser only because I don't have the freezer space for a online order of rodents and the smallest rats I can find to buy locally are 50gm smalls. But my girl hit 300gm this week, and though a 50gm rat is still a little big for her in terms of weight, by size, I'm sure she can do it!

She had been a GREAT feeder from day one, never refuses and hits HARD almost instantly every time. I hope to get her transitioned no trouble, but you just never know.

I am letting the rat defrost on top of her tank for the rest of the day. Letting her smell it all day I am hoping will make it irresistible. Then I will give it a good long blast with my blowdryer so it's toasty warm and supposedly delicious.

Wish me luck! I'll let you all know how it goes!

SHE DID IT!!!! As the rat was the defrosting, she was just sleeping her hide so I started getting worried. Then I decided to place the rat directly on the screen vent and about 30 seconds later, her head shot out her hide.

Once I dangled it in front of her, she only hesitated for about 30 seconds, but for her, that is an eternity, she has always been and INSTANT striker. But I think she was just sizing it up and figuring out what it was exactly. She wanted it bad, but knew it was a hell of a lot bigger than a mouse.

Anyway, I call that a perfect transition! I'm so happy!

The little jerk actually dragged her prize into her hide so I couldn't watch!! She never does that! I actually think she just instinctively felt more vulnerable because her meal was so much larger than she was used to.

She did decide her humid hide was a better place to digest (I actually think she is going to go into shed next week, she looks a little dull and it's about time, she's gained 100gm since her last one) but I got a nice view of her belly bulge while she slithered herself over.
