    Argh, Iv spotted mites!! :-(
First timer with a small mite problem. Went to my local breeder and he gave me Mite Off to fight them. what's the best way to deal with this?? My collection is only 3 snakes so not too bad but like I said, it's my first mite problem, and want to do this right. Any help is appreciated!!

The way I treated my snakes for mites was:

1.) Took everything out of the tubs
    2.) Bleached everything
3.) Put new bedding in the tub
4.) Sprayed the tub, bottom of the water dish (not inside - just flip it over and spray lightly) and anything else you put in
5.) While the setup is drying I coated my snakes in olive oil and let it sit for about 20 minutes
6.) Wash snakes off using mild soap (I used dawn dish soap)
7.) Put snake back in if everything has dried from being sprayed

This worked really well for me. I did spray my tubs down about 3-4 weeks later just to be on the safe side but I haven't seen a mite since I treated for them. Also instead of using the olive oil you can soak them instead to get the mites off of them. You will need put a little soap in the water though to break the surface and ensure the mites drown.

I use Provent-a-Mite(PAM) to treat for mites.
The mites disappeared the day after I used it.
Before PAM, I gave my snake daily baths with a drop of dawn soap until I could treat it properly. The soaks minimized the mites.

Also, sanitize all water bowls and other enclosure accessories with hot water and bleach. Change all substrate to paper towels until the mites go away. It will be easier to spot mites.

    Good luck

Thanks! I would have got some PAM but its not sold locally, might order a bottle for future use(hope there is no future use for it though). He says this mite off works so we will see. But yes I'll be sure to take everything out, totally disinfect and clean everything. Ugh, I hate when animals I own are sick, I feel like its my fault.

Even if you don't have mites in the future and plan on getting more snakes, its always good to treat newbies no matter where they come from. It's a good preventative measure.

Don't worry! It happens to the best of us! I have yet to experince this, but mites can come from many places! Unfortunately, our snakes enclosures are also great for mites :(

I'm sure this is a stressful time, but you're attacking the issue right away, and defending you snake! Great job :gj:

Hope all those mites die quickly! :taz:
