Ovy/Intro Question
As a new BP breeder, how long does the ovulation last? If you see an ovy, a week AFTER you observed a lock, can you reintroduce the same male?

After a female ovulates, a male will not breed her.....if he is still breeding her, she did not ovulate....ovulations usually last 18-36 hours.....depending on how much heat they have access to.....

The female usually takes a few days to ovulate. You can usually tell a few days before she ovulates. There's a color change and swelling that begins. The actual ovulation lasts a few days. A female will not allow a lock a few days before her ovulation. No point pairing after the ovulation.

Not completely true, some males will still try to lock with females after ovulation.

OK then, so the female will only allow a lock during or after ovulation, and the male not likely to pursue a lock after?
Could it be possible then, that the first time i put the pair together and they locked, that she is now preggers?
I know it sounds naive but have to ask.
She has shown no unusual behavior since lock.

If she has ovulated there is no point to introducing a male again even if he will lock her the eggs are already fertilized. You cant fertilize an already fertilized egg. If she ovulated that means she is gravid. The female is unlikely to lock during ovy and after, however there are some pretty determined males outthere. If shes still locking its likely she did not ovulate yet, got any pictures?

Pics below. I know u cannot double fertilize an egg.
If she wont lock during or after, even an noob like me can figure it must be before.
So my dumb ass question is (chicken...er snake, or the egg!):
If ovy happens AFTER they lock, does ovy then=gravid next?
Sorry I sound so dumb

Lol, I got ya. If she did ovy then yes she is gravid. You will at least be getting something either eggs or slugs or a combo of both.

When did you first start pairing her? It is possible to miss an ovy if you didn't check on her in a few days. Once you have seen an ovy you will know it. They look like they ate a football...
