What antibiotics are used to treat RIs?
The reason I'm asking is because my mom works for an animal pharmaceutical company and if she can order in the antibiotics and save some money that would be great. So what type of antibiotics are used?

It's true that there are different causes of RIs, but the most common ones are bacterial. Depending on how advanced the RI is you may have time to try to treat it with an antibiotic first and then do the expensive culture afterwards. The two times I have been to the vet with an RI they were both in the beginning stages. One I was told would have probably gone away on it's own it was so minor and the other was a little more advanced but a round of antibiotics later and it was gone. In both cases I was prescribed the same antibiotic (I did treat the extremely minor one just to be on the safe side instead of waiting for it to get more advanced). I can't remember what it was off the top of my head but I know it wasn't baytril and in both cases it worked.
The best advice I can give you princess17 is to go to your vet and get a diagnosis and then find out what they would prescribe. If you can get it through your mom and save some money, that's great, but you really should get advice from your vet first.

As it been seen by a vet?
If so than based on the culture you should know which anti-biotic has been prescribed.
Because you can get anti-biotic without them being prescribed and because some anti-biotics may be more prescribed than others does not mean YOU should play vet, diagnose your animal and prescribe your own treatment. ;)

I agree with the above posts by the way. You shouldn't plan to try to treat a sick animal by self-diagnosing it. You can cause more harm than good and you'd probably feel worse if you attempt to treat your pet and it dies rather than taking it to a vet and getting it properly diagnosed, even if it still dies.
Baytril is the most common antibiotic prescribed for ball pythons. In terms of dosage, etc, I'm sure you can find an online resource for that. It's a simple formula for the animal's weight in grams. There are oral and intravenous versions, I think?
Again, I don't think this is a good practice and I would highly advise against it, but that's the info you requested.
An exotic animal vet will often do a fecal for maybe 30 bucks, so if you go that route you COULD THEORETICALLY safely treat the animal once you get the results from that.
Source: My sister is a vet. She's got baytril in her fridge for me because I requested it, but I wouldn't bring it home and try to tinker with it myself.
