Q: What is the best alternative of PAM? PAM not available here in the Philippines..:(

Hi Folks, i am wondering if there is a more common alternative of PAM? PAM is not available here in the Philippines... also provide me instructions for use.

I don't know what is available in the P.I. You can look for products at your local pharmacy that are used for treating lice. Two brands that I know of are Rid and Nix. They are available as sprays and are Permethrin based. You would use a lice spray the same as you would Provent-A-Mite.

1) Remove the snake and water bowl from the enclosure.
2) Lightly spray everything in the enclosure.
3) Let it dry until there are no fumes to smell.
4) Replace snake and water bowl.
5) Repeat every 2 weeks, or each time you change substrate, until mites are gone.

This is correct but be sure to let the enclosure and bedding or paper completely air dry for awhile. A half hour to be safe. I also wouldn't treat every 2 weeks. There was a study done on household lice sprays and they retain their residual effect just as long if not longer than P.A.M. so I'd wait 3-4 weeks before a second treatment.

Keep in mind that permethrin is a dangerous chemical. Whether its in the P.A.M. on in lice spray, it needs to be used carefully and only as much as needed. A little goes a long way. Never put it directly on the snake.

reptile relief by natural chemistry. I would be concerned by using a Permethrin based product not designed for snakes it is a variation of a poison to kill snakes. The strength and amounts might be incorrect and you could do serious damage to the animals.

There are hard work methods that do work very well they just mean time and effort.

Isolate all the snakes that have or might have mites. standing the enclosure in tubs of oil soapy water or diatomaceous earth. Clean the enclosure (every corner everything) with hot soapy water and or steam. soak the snake in some water with a few drops of soap. Use newspaper as a substrate and keep the enclosure dry as you can. Avoid misting as much as possible. This must be done every day for 30 days.

Yes a lot of work but if you kill drown the eggs eventually there will be no mites left.
