Hydrofarm Tstat - Anyone Runnign A Rack With One?
    Hi guys,

I've been really happy with the Hydrofarm for using with a single enclosure but am wondering if it could handle a small rack. According to the specs, it can handle up to 1000W and says it can handle more than one heat pad. But I'd like to hear if anyone has actually used one for a rack.

    Thanks.

i tried one in a rack that was an experiment all together. the rack had open sides and was in my basement. the temps wouldnt stabilize. it was most likely the rack design and its location more so than the tstat. its still on and running with no problems though. been running it over 2 months. no snakes in rack. just an experiment for now. tubs with pine. ill be moving the rack into a heated room to see how it fares soon. but it works as intended for now. just bad location and design on my part for the rack

I've had a Hydrofarm on one of my racks for three months now with no problems. I do consider it temporary until I can get another Herpstat.

I have not used Hydrofarm thermostats. However, if I understand correctly, they are on/off style, which can create much more extreme temp swings that a proportional tstat. Since you are already managing temp differences from top to bottom on a rack, I personally would not add another factor of instability. I only use on/offs for my QT tubs, since they are only running for a limited timeframe on a single enclosure. Spring for the Herpstat.

I use them only to back up my other thermostats, in case it fails or a probe comes loose. I have hooked one up to see and used alone they fluctuate about 3-4 degrees. A herpstat will keep your temp within 0.1
