    Display viv for a Colombian?
Got a 36x18x24 for my female BCI. I'm considering doing a full display setup with plants and whatnot to make it look nice, rather than just bedding and cardboard boxes for hides. She's still a little thing now, but I know when she gets bigger, she'll be knocking things over left and right.

So I was wondering if there are any particular ways to keep thing from being knocked over, any things that just aren't safe, and if it's even worth it at all.

    Thoughts?

I don't find boas to be particularly destructive. Especially now, she's not going to be knocking over big cage furniture. In terms of pros/cons, as with any snake a display viv is going to be more work to clean, but boas certainly make better display snakes than balls do, and the babies especially really enjoy climbing. Set up some driftwood or other climbing structures that are heavy and stable enough that they won't fall over and crush her. Do be prepared to make adjustments though; not all standard viv setups work for all boas.

Oh... and make sure to post some pics when you're finished. :)

Heavier objects and/or top-heavy ones should do well. My girl doesn't knock much of anything down, but then again she's only 5 feet. A lot of them do like to climb, generally driftwood structures are heavy enough to support their weight, especially if you lean them up against the sides.

Good luck. And yes, pics! :P

You can make some fairly inexpensive climbing structures from pvc pipe...

My girl tried to climb the table and thought the remote was a hold. Too bad no one told her it wasn't anchored to the table. :P

Other than the occasional clumsiness, my girl does pretty well about not knocking things over, especially for being 6+ lbs. Then again, her climbing "tree" is bolted to the tank and she does love crushing her box top hide before going in. She also burrows for some reason, maybe she thinks she's a KSB?

...But that looks like crap XD It's not something I'd put in in a DISPLAY viv.

I saw some pics on another forum where someone took pvc pipe and burned it a bit with a torch, it made a really nice looking "branch".

If you use a radiant heat panel with climbing branches, your boa will climb and perch.

I definitely think it's worth it.
