mites?some kind of small thin tiny bugs....
hi.i use zoomed reptibark for my ball and just tonight after thawing a mouse i placed it on my ball pythons tray and after about 20 minutes i saw two tiny quick moving bugs running all over the mouse:O.random facts:i bought the mice from petco and they were frozen, the last time i cleaned him was about 2 weeks ago and he hasnt defecated since, and i constantly keep a red heat light on in his temporary ten gal tank(hes a baby).im positive they arent fleas but they moved quickly without jumping.im really annoyed and would be extremely greatful if anyone could have any suggestion as to what they couldve been....are snakes notorius for mites?i did obtain him from petco as well(i know...i shun chain stores but the only upside was that i got to actually handle and inspect the animal prior to purchasing it and with my job i really cant just go to reptile shows).he seemed clean and has never really bothered to soak in his water bowl though i always make sure it has fresh water.just seeing those things on the mouse irked me so i tossed the rodent immediately.hopefully he doesnt have parasites, and if so does anyone know any remedies?i just want him clean.im also confused as to what the best substrate would be that would prohibit mites from becoming a problem :taz:

maybe im just being paranoid?...hopefully its no big problem :/.on a better note i bought a flukers water dish with an attachable bottle and my hatchling sand boa drank for about ten minutes straight!i know the reputable pet store i bought her from took good care of her but they also had her in too big of an enclosure so she seldom if ever even used her water dish there.im hoping if in a worse case scenario my ball does have bug in his enclosure that theyll stay away from my other reptiles.hopefully its nothing major.

I'm not exactly sure what the best substrate to prevent them is but if you use paper towels while your snake has them it is much easier to see the mites on a paper towel. Also since your snake hasn't defecated try soaking it.. soaking your snake sometimes helps it deficate quite quickly.
