having a hard time

My current set up is zilla 30L, hot side is 90.1 and cool side is 80.8. Humity is 61%.I am heating with a UTH regulated by a thermostate and a heat lamp with red light 75 watt bulb. I am measuring temps with a Accurite thermometer. I really want to get away from using that bulb because it sucks the humity right out of the cage. I am having to mist 100+ times a day B/C of a shed.:rolleye2: If I turn the light off my temp drops to like 75-78 range. I have moved my UTH to the middle of the cage and jacked up the thermostate but nothing seems to be helping. my current UTH i a ultatherm 11x11 size.... :rolleye2:
Should I move to the tubs. I can not believe the ridiculous problems that I am having, I am trying so hard to keep this snake happy.

Tubs and/or PVC cages hold humidity in much better. where do you have the Acurite's probe? Remember that UTH's do not effect air temperature

Are you covering any of the screen lid? If not, then that is going to cause you more humidity trouble than the light. Cover ~3/4 of the lid with plastic wrap, a damp towel, plexiglass, or something similar. You can also attach styroboard or cardboard to three sides to the tank to help retain heat better.

I have the Acurite's probe on the substrate. and I do have the 3/4 of the lid covered with plastic. I will try a damp towl now. thanks

No problem. Move the probe underneath the substrate, directly against the glass over the UTH. I think you'll be surprised how much hotter it is under there. BPs have a tendency to push substrate out of the way, so you want to make sure the hot spot isn't too hot if he/she digs down to the glass.

try a larger diameter water bowl and perhaps moving its placement over the hot side, or under the heat lamp. Lamps do not 'suck water from air' they change the way the air flows that is all. Air flow is a good thing and small adjustments can sometimes make a big change. Bigger bowl and try different spots give it a few hours and see what happens.

Humid hides during sheds also can solve most issues snakes do fine at 40% and just add the humid hide at a shed sign and remove it after the shed is complete. I used this method for ages with no shed problems at all.

I will def get a bigger water bowl for Jackson, and he currently has a humid hide that he has been using during this shed. thanks for the advice.
