UGH! not eating

its been over 3 months since my 2 and a half yr old male has eaten. i offer every week. he just strolles by gives a sniff and keeps on going not interested at all. i realize its breeding season but how long will this last. he is still acting normal loves to be held, not agressive at all. set up is up to temp and moist. looks good. So how long do i let this go and what can i do if he never eats again......worried about our baby....

This can last for a bit, so be patient. If it last for more than a few months, then breath a little faster :rolleyes:

Just keep trying, make sure your husbandry is correct and keep an eye on the lil one :)

I agree with x2. Check your husbandry duties first. Bp's can go six month's or so without eating.
Are you feeding live or f/t? Just continue to offer food. If, you are feeding f/t mice/rat's? You can try and leave one in her tub or whatever your housing it in overnight. This is what I did with my normal 0.1 when she wouldn't eat. It was gone in the morning and her last meal was live.

Well if he is not interested at all, it could be because of the breeding season. In that case, it could be 1-6 months from what I have seen. Hopefully someone with more experience on this can chime in.

I have dipped my rats in tuna juice and that got finicky eaters to purk right up

I've had males go 6-7 months without eating during breeding season. It drives me crazy! Just keep an eye on his weight. If he starts losing it and begins to look thin, that's when u should really start to worry. I'm sure he'll be fine for now.

As for the tuna juice.... Really? I've never heard of someone doing that. I might have to try that sometime lol.

he has always eaten live mice great. i started f/t rats which he was eating, but when he went on his hunger strike i did leave them in over night. bo-go i tried 4 weeks in a row. then i figured if he is picky maybe he wants the excitment of a live feed so i tried a live mouse. the last three weeks and left it in the tank a few hours..lol they seemed to have co-existed well. i keep offering it, they may be old friends now.

Situations like this are why having a digital scale is so useful. A scale is an invaluable tool in tracking their growth, and in cases like this, their weight loss.

Keep offering on a regular schedule, and make sure he always has plenty of water.

In additon to the tuna juce trick, some people have had success with using a hammer and nail to expose some brain matter of the rat or mouse....only on F/T, though!
