Oil Filled Heaters

I currently have an electric heater for my snake room, but I'm wanting to convert to an oil filled electric heater to hopefully save a little money. What brands/models do you use and are you happy with them?

You can find oil filled heater for less than $50 the most important is to have it plugged into a external t-stat such as ranco.

I can't remember the brand name on mine (I'm at work) but I picked it up at Target for $45 about two years ago. I never ran it very often, and haven't needed to run it in two years, but I was alway happy with the heat it put out, and how easy it was to regulate.

We've had two of these from Lowe's running 24/7 for about a year. They work great, but I still have a Ranco thermostat running as a backup. And I monitor the rooms' temperatures with a separate thermometer, since the heater always seems to be a few degrees off.

do you think oil heaters or electric space heaters are safer? I have a little electric heater in my room helping to keep my BP warm. I like it but I dont like the idea of fire.

I second (or is it third) the use a Ranco as a thermostat to regulate the oil filled heaters. Any time you can increase safety, it is a good thing. I have one of these running 24/7 (plugged into a Ranco):

I have a Delongi digital oil heater. I like it, but, to be honest you won't necessarliy save electricity. Some of those oil heaters are 1500 watts that means you will be pulling about 12.5 amps. That is very close to the max of an average 15 watt circuit in houses. I used one and it put me over baseline in the winter at my house on the electric bill(I was paying $250 a month in the winter:O). Long story short, I switched over to using a Heat Pump A/C unit I installed in my snake room. Yeah the unit costs more initially but it only pulls 4 amps and heats and cools my snake room a lot more efficiently. Good luck on your choice.

The one Deborah posted above actually has a 900w setting that I've been using, which has currently eliminated the cricuit breaker flipping I was getting to do when running a hair dryer in my snake room. I can't speak to whether my power bill has gone down, though - winter has been too warm in GA for a fair comparison.

My Delonghi MG15EW (I believe this is just the Canadian version of the American model #) has a Low-Med-High settings, which are 700 W, 800 W and 1500 W. My ranco can handle 1500 Watts but I just keep the heater at 800 Watts and it has no problem maintaining my snake room to 76-80 farenheit.
