Bulk feeders for single snake owner.
I'm trying to avoid making several trips (although only 25 minutes) to buy 3-4 feeders every time I need them. My little guy is about 215g now, so right between pups and weanlings depending on the size.

My main question is if I were to buy a larger amount (25 rats?), what size should I buy? I want to be able to feed him 13-15% every 5 days, so should I just buy some pinky rats to offset the weanlings as he gets bigger?

    Cue banana

Are we talking about live or F/T?

F/T, he eats them like a champ in less than 10 seconds of dangling.

F/T pinks tend to get freezer burn decently quick. I got a bag of 25 pink mice for my corn, they lasted less than two months before they started getting the burn and losing tails and feet. Kind of gross, but I figured I'd tell ya my experience.

If you're worried about over-feeding just change to every 7 days. I'd say just get 25 of whatever size you're feeding and change your feeding schedule.

I'm not exactly worried, but it would seem as time goes on I would be underfeeding him. At the same time I don't want to buy weanlings because they are 30-49g and he is on par with ~33g's.

I'll just order 25 weanies and get 5-6 pups from my local guy if the weanlings are bigger than expected.

You could do a 50/50 split on the order and feed the smaller rats first. If you order from a supplier who vac seals the bags, freezer burn will be less of a concern. Just don't open the bags till you're ready to use the rats, the transfer them over to a zip-lock.

If you're worried about underfeeding him, It's worth keeping in mind that BP's in the wild most likely don't catch something to eat every 5-7 days, and they do just fine. Sometimes I think we (the collective WE) over feed these guys.

Completely understandable. I just don't want to pay $2.50 for pups locally anymore if I can get them for $1.35 each from a F/T supplier. I'll give them a call and see if I can get some pups/weanies in one 25 pack. I'll just bust out a calculator to try and keep him on a 15% diet for every 5-7 days and stretch/reduce the time as needed.

Ask your supplier if they can vac pack the rats in bags of 5 or so. Never know unless you ask.
