My new baby just shed! :D
I'm sorry, I hope this is the right forum...I just had to share, lol. My coworkers don't understand why I am so happy, but it was the first time since I got him and I'm really relieved it went well!

I kind of want to preserve the shed if I can, is there any way to safely sanitize it without destroying it or bleaching it out? Or do I need to? Have any of you saved your snake's first shed? (Okay, it wasn't his first shed, but you know what I mean...)

I have every shed my snakes ever produced.
I keep them in a box.

    :D

I don't worry about "sanitizing" them because any bacteria on them probably dies off after a while.

I guess you could put it in an airtight box with a tiny capful of bleach and the vapors would do the trick.

After all the sheds I've seen, I still grab it and go find hubby squealing "Look what [fill in the blank] just did!" and then I go get whomever just shed and go back again, squealing "Look at [whomever's] new suit!"

And then I take photos of the new suit.

I save all of my snakes sheds. I just put them in a zip-lock bag.

You might want to take a look at this:

They have developed a method of preserving sheds and giving them their original coloring back. They will let you send them a shed. Give Justin a call, he's a great guy.

Hee hee! I don't feel alone now! I was so proud of Anon and his new duds :D Can't wait till he's done digesting so I can take some more pics! He's much darker now. (Business suit?)

And that's a good point about the bacteria dying off, I've left it alone for several days thinking that might help. And he didn't poop on it or anything. :P

Oh my goodness, that is incredible! Awesome that they support such great causes, too. Thanks for the link!

(Oh wow...looked him up and realized I've been on his website before...Now staring at the crazy beautiful snakes again...)

I got my 1.1 pastels from Justin, he was very quick to reply to my questions and overall is a great guy with some really nice snakes.

sbit, that is a very good looking shed. It's obvious you have your humidity spot on! Here's to many more :carouse:

I LOVE when my snakes shed, they are so silky afterwards. That looks like a good full one, you must be doing something right! :D
For some reason, the shed skin really sicks me out. I use the tongs to get it out and check for eyecaps. (I also gag when I remove the dryer lint, though... so I'm just grossed out by odd things...) I can handle poop, pee, dead rats and their guts and blood- but the skin gets me.
