Cyprus Mulch??

Hey everyone...:D
I am just making sure...is Cyprus Mulch Bedding okay for snakes? And...is it okay to use for my rats? What do u guys think?

Rats: no!

A moisture holding wood chunk bedding for rodents? No way. The drier the better!

Cypress is the closest thing to home for balls. Rats need good dry pine or aspen

No pine for the rats! Baked or dried aspen is okay, but pine still contains aromatic oils which are more likely to irritate their lungs and give them a URI.

I've been keeping my rats on kiln dried pine for a year now with no problems. Many rat breeders I know have been using kiln dried pine for years wihout any problems.

Ive been breeding rats off and on for 15 years and always have kept them on pine. Never had any issues what so ever. Right now i have about 12 racks going strong and no issues.

Kiln dried pine is fine. It's cedar that is proven toxic to rats.

It's fine for snakes, but I wouldn't use it for rats.

A lot of feeder rat breeders keep their rats on pine, it's fine. Mine have been on it for 4+ years and they all live 2.5-3 years. There is no difference between my feeder rats and my pet rats that have been kept on the recycled paper stuff.

Keep in mind its important when getting cypress that you want 100% cypress. When you go to the nursery centers alot of the times they sell cypress but if you look on the bags it says cypress blend. Thats not what you want. You want pure cypress. Kambark is a good brand if you can find it. Also keep in mind when using cypress its damp so during breeding and cooling seasons as you do your night drops that damp substrate needs to be monitored so you dont get resp issues. I use cypress during the year but i have a few snakes i have to cool to breed and those animals go on paper during the cooling process. All my others breed without night dropping temps. Those animals stay on cypress all year long
