I've NEVER heard of a rainbow boa getting 10 feet long. Some people say they get to 5-6 feet or so, some have claimed longer(but they are pretty slow growers so I haven't seen one more than 5 feet)

A common boa can get 7-9 feet or so for a big girl. A true red tail can get even a bit longer than that.

yeah, rainbow boas are very moderate in size...BCC's(boa constrictor constrictor) can hit 10+ feet and be in excess of 50 pounds...you won't have to worry about that with a rainbow.

i'd get a female BCC, they can get pretty big

Red tailed boa, BCC or BCI

If you want 8+ feet, I'd go with a BCC as even a BCI female may not get up there. BCCs are more expensive than normal BCIs and I have read that they can be a bit pickier with husbandry. Be prepared for at least a 6' enclosure (Boaphile, Boamaster, Animal Plastics, etc) for an adult boa.

As for being held, it depends on the snake and how much you consider "a lot" of handling is.

I agree, coastal carpet Pythons get to be 8+ feet, I personally like them a lot better than boas... Not that I don't like boas their next on my list.

If you're looking for a big boa, a pure BCC is the way to go. Mine is a total sweetheart(except for when she's hungry), but of course you can always end up with a wild one. They're generally very docile, and tolerate good amounts of handling well.

And mine is right around 10 years old and still growing. She's close to 9 feet and 40ish pounds.
